Julie Armbruster creates unique and quirky fine art paintings and design products depicting a variety of unusual imaginative beasts. The characters are discovered through a series of material explorations using homemade gesso, ink, and acrylic paint on wood panel. Each one is imbued with a certain dissatisfaction or awkwardness and is intensely focused on the internal churning in their brains. The characters are repeated or monunmentalized when it seems necessary to understand more of the individual's narrative. The stories are intertwined with social observations, paranoia, and current events.
