Lisa Walraven
Paintings
After obtaining a BFA at the Ohio University in 1989, I have gained valuable knowledge by working with birds and mammals as a wildlife technician at a nature center, conducting bird surveys for the US Fish & Wildlife Service and obtaining my master bird banding permit. When I began banding birds I started depicting the bird in a portrait form. Seeing each detail in the hand made me realize how individual each bird was, and I immediately began depicting bold portraits of birds because I wanted everyone to see the birds as individuals. After 10 years my work has developed into striking paintings of birds, animals and nature that are graphic, yet painterly. My work has been published in the form of Birding Festival brochures, Bird Watcher’s Digest Magazine, ad promotions and banners, t-shirt designs and US Fish & Wildlife Service posters. Nature inspires me to paint. I paint to help wildlife and to save habitat. I donate proceeds from my work to various worthy organizations to help to do just that. I also hope that my work leaves the viewer with a new appreciation for wildlife. |
